In cooperation with the CPSC Bell Sports, Inc. is voluntarily recalling the Bell Adult Slope Helmet. and the Bell Youth Soquel Helmet.

What is MIPS?

Mips (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a leading slip-plane technology inside the helmet designed to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts.

How Does it Work?

There are three main components to a Mips-equipped helmet:

  1. The foam liner
  2. The low-friction liner
  3. And an elastomeric attachment system between them

In an impact, the foam liner dissipates force. Additinoally, the elastomeric attachment system stetches to allow the foam liner to rotate independently around the low-friction liner and your head.

Although the Mips system only rotates a few millimeters, that movement may reduce the amount of rotation force that could be transferred to your brain.
